Prenatal Massage

prenatal massage
Prenatal massage, also called pregnancy massage, is used to relieve the stress that pregnancy puts on a woman's body. During pregnancy the body changes rapidly. The organs shift. The ligaments of the hips relax. The abdomen stretches. The center of gravity changes. All of these things cause discomfort and pain. Prenatal massage is done to cater to the special needs of a pregnant woman as her body goes through dramatic changes.

Positioned for Comfort

Prenatal massage can be performed by
  • Having an expectant woman lie on her side, propped up with pillows;
  • Utilizing specially designed maternity cushioning systems, which allow the expectant mother to lie on her stomach, supported by the cushions;
  • Positioning the mother-to- be in a semi-reclining position propped up by pillows.
Benefits:
  • Reduces stress hormones
  • Decreases swelling in hands, feet, legs and arms
  • Relieves muscle discomfort and cramping
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Relieves insomnia
  • Alleviates back, neck, shoulder, and hip pain by realigning the muscles
  • Relieves the symptoms of pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Relieves stress on weight bearing joints
  • Stabilizes hormonal levels and helps relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes
  • Reduces the chance of varicose veins and blood clots
  • Helps prepare the body for an easier delivery.
